This is what it’s all about.... here pictured is the Le Mans
winning car of Duncan Hamilton and Tony Rolt in the pits for
the last time before winning the 1953 race. There are several reasons why this car was so important to the Jaguar factory and the industry at the time, it was the first car to complete Le Mans averaging over 100mph and also the first car to win the race with disc brakes. The First win for the factory and the C-type at Le Mans came in 1951, racing heritage is why.
This was the first of many successes for Jaguar at the famous track in le Sarthe and put Jaguar on the map as a serious sports car manufacturer. In total there were 54 XK120C’s or C-type built and either raced by Jaguar or sold to private teams to race, which makes this car special in the fact it was not mass produced. Genuine versions come to market very rarely and when they do the price is well beyond that of the average man in the street, which is where the TWR Replicas fit into the market.
Made from high spec GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) the bodywork is a replica of the 1951 or 1953 car and the tubular space-frame the body it sits on, cosmetically replicates the original chassis. There are several major differences which are aimed at improving performance and further reducing the cost of procuring what are now hard to find components. The engine, main suspension and running gear components are taken from a Jaguar XJ6 series III saloon, many are then engineered to fit the thinner width of the
C-type. The 4.2 engine offers much better performance and reliability then the original tuned 3.4 version, this is mated to either a Jaguar 4-speed with overdrive gearbox or a
modern Toyota 5-speed offering better gearing and smoother changes. The rear differential, shortened wishbones and drive shafts present a reliable and economic alternative to locating and shortening a solid Jaguar MK VII axle assembly. Everything else on the car is either custom made to replicate the original or is refurbished, as this car is built from the chassis up modern components are used ensuring there are no reliability issues often associated with classic or vintage cars.
How accurately you the customer requires the replication of the original C-type is further explained on the options page of this site and determined by your overall budget compared to how convincing you wish your car to be. We are happy to advise and engineer to
