From the initial setting out on the laser set-up chassis jig of the CNC cut, floor panels it is very apparent how well designed and manufactured the SCF XJ13 chassis really is.
Multiple panels are accurately cut, position welded into place, then double checked for position and alignment before final welding is completed to very high quality. The UK Show car SCF XJ13 is beginning its journey through a stringent quality controlled production where accuracy and quality precede speed and expense. Whilst emulating the original aluminium monocoque chassis , due to the advanced materials and processes this chassis is approximately 35% stronger.
Recent revisions to the panel dimensions has now advanced the accuracy of the chassis, larger panels
Once the chassis is completed the unit moves on to the assembly process where utilising the latest technology adopted by manufacturers like Jaguar and Aston Martin, the composite and Aluminium body sections are bonded. Again time and accuracy are essential during this part of the assembly, as the different sections are added the true shape begins to appear.
mean less distortion through the welding as there is less welding required. The
Chassis is now through this process and has been moved into the assembly process
for the body to be bonded in place bodywork fittings aligned and fitted.
Body sections and parts such as doors and boot lids were received into the production
holding area ready for the build to proceed.
With the main body sections trimmed and prepared they are then bonded to the chassis.
Work has progressed smoothly since the last update and further to planning meeting
anticipated completion is approx 4 weeks away at which point the rolling build unit
will ship to TWR Replicas in the UK for completion. The Replica wheel with custom
quick release hub as also been completed by Mota-Lita.
With much of the chassis re-design completed and the welding finalised attention
was turned to re-design and fabrication of the replacement suspension arms, changing
from the original XJ40 pieces to CNC’s from billet, aluminium. Offering strength
and further weight savings over the original spec’d parts.
